Lawrence's Fish & Shrimp

Chicago's Fried Shrimp Icon since 1950

Lawrence Schweig did not have shrimp on his mind when he opened his tiny storefront operation in 1950 at the bridge on Chicago’s Canal Street. He knew seafood, though, and was determined to turn his humble beginnings into a success. As first generation Americans, Lawrence and his wife pursued their American dream raising four kids while growing the business.

Over the years, Lawrence and his sons have developed unique recipes for delicious seafood products. Many of their seafood dishes and sauces go through a multi-day process of brining and breading to get the best flavors. Now run by the family’s third generation, Lawrence’s reputation for great food at great prices continues to live on as loyal customers bring their children & grandchildren to eat there.

We're not the only ones who love them!

Lawrence's Fish & Shrimp has been featured in Eater, Chicago Reader, Chicago Magazine, the Infatuation and the Taste of Chicago festival.
