Central Grocery Muffulettas

Home of the Original Muffuletta Sandwich
Frank
I've had plenty of italian deli sandwiches in my day, but there is nothing like an original muffuletta from the guys who invented it. This is like a NYC style sandwich on steroids (it doesn't even fit on a plate!) and tastes like nothing you'll find in the five boroughs.
Frank Luciano - The Sultan of Sandwich

We’ve got muff-alotta love for this New Orleans sammie first created here at this tiny neighborhood Italian grocery store. Central Grocery first opened its doors in the heart of the French Quarter in 1906 and not much has changed since. It’s first owner was Salvatore Lupo, a Sicilian sandwich superhero who came up with the legendary muffuletta. The sandwich became an easier way to serve farmers who would stop by for a traditional Sicilian lunch where everything was eaten separately. Delicious, but not so great for portability. #oldworldproblems So Salvatore sliced open a whole loaf of his Sicilian sesame bread and stuffed everything inside.

If only all problems could be as easily solved with a loaf of Italian bread.

We're not the only ones who love them!

Central Grocery has been featured on PBS, Thrillist, USA Today and Huffington Post among many other media outlets. The Today Show named their muffuletta one of the five best sandwiches.
