Buddy's Pizza

Detroit's #1 Square Pizza Since 1946

So, salad pizza is apparently a “thing.” We’ve accepted it. And while we’re sure it takes some skill to create, it’s still comforting to see a slice that’s got an ample crust and is blanketed in bubbling cheese. Cue Buddy’s.

When Buddy’s first opened in 1936, it was a neighborhood tavern for the auto workers of Detroit. But in the wake of World War II, business began to suffer. So, in 1946, owner Gus Guerra added his take on Sicilian pizza to the menu, which has become the definitive Detroit-style pizza.

Buddy’s double stretches their dough to achieve their trademark crispy crust and bakes it in a specially made cast iron pan until the Wisconsin cheese at the edges turns a deep shade of brown.

Your job? To distract your friends and family long enough to steal those crusty cheesy corners. That is some prime real estate, my friend.

We're not the only ones who love them!

Buddy’s has been featured on Food Network and has been voted one of the best pizzas in the country by Food & Wine Magazine, GQ Magazine and Thrillist.
