San Francisco Classic Clam Chowder

If you walk into any Boudin Bakery, anywhere in California, you can order your clam chowder served in a bread bowl. The bread used is the iconic San Francisco favorite, a sourdough round straight from the hot ovens of the famous Boudin Bakery. And it is turned into a bowl by simply slicing off the top, removing the innards (most of us can’t resist not eating the soft inside right away, but if you can, it makes amazing, toasted croutons), and filling the hollow with piping hot clam chowder. Visitors and locals, alike, not only enjoy the chowder, but afterward, they also eat the bowl, giving them the two iconic tastes of San Francisco in delicious one meal: tangy Boudin San Francisco sourdough made from the same starter they used more than a century ago and sweet, rich clam chowder made the way they have always made it in the magical city by the bay. Included are four fresh sourdough bread bowls and two 19 oz. cans of Boudin’s famous chowder, so you have plenty to share, if you wish.
